Discover Shachihata’s Eco Action for a better tomorrow—exploring long-lasting products and responsible manufacturing that support a more sustainable future.
SHACHIHATA'S ECO ACTION CONCEPT
~For our Earth and our Future~
Environmental issues caused by excessive energy consumption must be dealt with immediately. Shachihata is dedicated to restoring balance in the global environment by stepping up its efforts to conserve and recycle resources and develop production systems that minimize industrial waste. Eco Action will remain a guiding principle in Shachihata’s operations now and for the foreseeable future.
We continue to develop long life and high quality products that are environmentally friendly
Since our founding, we have emphasised the importance of manufacturing reusable products. We continue to develop all of our products with this in mind. In addition to manufacturing products that offer high quality and high durability, we continue our efforts toward developing green products that are environmentally friendly in terms of material safety, recyclability, and more.
Reduce
Manufacturing Long Life products
Long-lasting is one of our core concepts in research and development.
Refillable
For over a century, Shachihata has been dedicated to creating refillable and long-lasting marking tools—offering a full range of stamp pads, pre-inked stamps, and refillable markers designed for repeated use. Durability and sustainability have always been at the heart of our R&D philosophy, supporting generations of users while reducing environmental impact.
Replaceable Nibs for Sustainable Performance
Some of Artline markers feature highly durable nibs that resist wear—even under intensive use. And when the time finally comes, the nibs can be easily replaced, allowing the body to be reused again and again.
This reduces waste, lowers disposal costs, and supports a more sustainable workflow without compromising performance.
Dry-Safe Ink for Seamless, Waste-Free Workflow
With our dry-safe ink technology, the cap can be left off for two weeks without drying out—under standard conditions. This prevents the common issue of dried-out nibs that force users to discard the entire marker. It ensures a smoother workflow and helps reduce waste—both in materials and in time.
Products featuring this technology are clearly marked with the “DRY SAFE INK” label—a visible sign of reliability and convenience.
This innovation reflects our commitment to sustainability, powered by our dedicated research and development. We continue to create smarter, more responsible marking solutions for everyday use.
Applying life cycle assessment to steadily reduce our impact on the environment
A life cycle assessment (LCA) is a means of comprehensively evaluating the environmental impact of stationery throughout all related processes from raw material procurement to production, distribution, usage and disposal. We conduct an LCA to evaluate the environmental impact at each stage.
Carbon Offset
Shachihata has been conducting Carbon Offset (in Australia and China) to prevent global warming.
Artline has purchased carbon credits in global hydroelectric power generation. So Artline 70, 90, 700 and 100 permanent markers, and 200 writing pens are doing their bit for the environment.
Reuse
Ecology system good for people and the environment
Shachihata conducts eco-friendly manufacturing at each factory.
Example: lnazawa (Japan) factory
At our Inazawa factory, we handle every step of Xstamper production—from making ink and porous rubber to molding and assembly. We carefully manage wastewater, emissions, and waste to protect the local environment. A nearby irrigation channel flows into rice fields that grow the food we eat, so keeping it clean is essential.
For Shachihata, caring for nature isn’t new—it’s part of who we are.

Recycle
Manufacturing that is good for the environment...ECO-GREEN
Efforts aimed at sustainability have been gaining attention all over the world. This is true also for Shachihata.
We released a line of ECO-GREEN products made from recycled and other materials of a low impact on the environment with the realization of the action that must be taken by the manufacturer.

Artline ECO PRODUCTS has been awarded the "Eco Mark," Japan’s official environmental label established in 1989 by the Japan Environment Association. This certification recognizes products that conserve the environment and minimize their impact throughout their life cycle.
Sustainable “Capless 9 BIOMAS PLASTIC” made from waste material
Out of consideration for the environment, we released versions of our popular “Capless 9” products containing biomass plastic recycled from waste material. They provide the same performance as our conventional Capless 9 products.

Ink Made with Plant-Based Ingredients
Some of the inks we supply for markers and stamps contain plant-based materials, including ingredients derived from sugarcane and castor oil. The use of these materials reflects our commitment to more environmentally conscious manufacturing.
Unlike fossil fuels such as petroleum, these ingredients are renewable resources. Plants can be cultivated and replenished, making sustainable agriculture a viable path for long-term resource management.
By reducing dependence on finite resources, we’re making choices that lead toward a better future. We continue to reimagine the role of ink—balancing environmental responsibility with product quality.
Solar Power Generation at Our Inazawa Factory
Since 2012, our Inazawa Factory has been harnessing renewable energy through a rooftop solar power system. A total of 1,022 solar panels were installed, and all electricity generated is sold to the local power company, contributing directly to the region’s energy supply.
To promote transparency and raise awareness, a digital meter at the factory entrance displays real-time generation data for employees and visitors. This visible reminder of clean energy in action reinforces our commitment to sustainability.
To date, the system has generated over 3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity—a steady contribution to CO₂ reduction and a clear reflection of our long-term dedication to responsible energy use.
